There is no doubt that the most commonly used type of material is cotton. In fact, it is believed that more than 25 million tons of cotton bales are being produced annually in order to satisfy the demand created for it and the main reason for that is its softness. This soft yet sturdy type of material is light and breezy, perfect for wearing throughout the whole year and for almost every possible occasion one could think of, from dominating the streets due to all of that comfy streetwear apparel young urban people wear and desire so much, to elegant dresses to pyjamas and what not… It is also a moisture absorbent type of material meaning it absorbs liquids and sweat pretty fast while keeping your body dry. But, out of all these things, the greatest benefit is that it is hypo-allergenic and breathable, perfect for even the most sensitive skin. The main downside of cotton is that does not dry quickly which can be huge downside when wearing it when exercising on cold, wet and windy conditions.

Generally speaking, synthetic materials are usually a blend of nylon, polyester, spandex, etc., and are another popular option, especially in countries where the weather is cold, wet, and windy. Synthetic and wool types of clothing are ideal for such conditions as they can keep you warm while keeping you dry and comfy (when being physically active). Well, this is one of the main benefits of these types of fabrics and in fact, the one that renders them a better choice than cotton. Although more affordable, the main downside of synthetic fabrics is that they tend to retain body odour which can be pretty bad especially when working out. Thus before making any decision, do the math and take into account the pros and cons of the two aforementioned type of fabrics. Then and only then you will be able to make the right decision.
