As consumers we are becoming more and more aware of what is in the products that we regularly apply to our skin. We are also learning a lot more about the influence of chemicals on our body and the environment. So, by now you probably know that chemical-based skincare products put you at greater risk of developing irritations, allergies and even hormonal disbalances and some types of cancer.

That being said, you probably want to be extra careful regarding the type of products you use, which is why you’re considering giving natural skincare a try. Skin care products with natural ingredients can provide several benefits for your skin, body, well-being and environment. Here are the 3 main reasons why you should choose natural skin care products instead of chemical-based ones.

Better for Your Skin

Skin care products and makeup usually contain chemicals, artificial colours and fillers which can lead to redness, irritation and breakouts. Some people are allergic to those chemicals found in the conventionally-produced products. But even if you’re not, it’s a smart thing to avoid them.

Our skin is very absorbent. So, when you use products such as moisturisers, cleansers and toners, the ingredients within them are getting absorbed into your skin and travel further inside body. For instance, when the lotion is applied to the skin, the ingredients contained within it slowly sink into the skin’s deeper layers where there are blood vessels. So eventually, these chemicals end up into your bloodstream. From there, they directly affect many of the body’s processes. Hence, by avoiding the use of synthetic skin care products, you’re primarily avoiding all negative health effects, and this, in turn, will result in you feeling better and looking better.

On the other hand, the organic ingredients contained in the natural skin care and beauty products can clear breakouts, protect from the elements, soothe irritations, etc. Plants are full of nutritious and healthy ingredients. And when I say nutritious, I’m actually talking about vitamins, linoleic acid, antioxidants, fatty acids and flavonoids – ingredients that help keep the skin young, radiant and healthy.

There is an interesting saying that goes: If you wouldn’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin! Think about this every time you want to buy a product and take a look at the ingredients on the label. If your answer to this question is no, then it’s very probable that you should start turning your skincare routine into a more natural one.

Safer for the Environment

There are numerous reasons why natural products are better for the environment. First of all, the manufacturing process used to create most of the standard skincare products on the market puts a great deal of stress on the environment. This is so because the extraction of particular ingredients (aluminium, lead, petroleum, etc.) requires mining, and that, in turn, produces a great deal of pollution. Additionally, during the process of manufacturing the majority of the chemicals end up into the air, soil and water.

On the other hand, organic skin care products don’t necessitate mining as they are manufactured using ingredients derived from plants. As a result, they also produce fewer chemicals that go into the air and water. Another disadvantage of the chemical-heavy beauty products is the fact that they contain harsh chemical fragrances that are released into the atmosphere which can be very harmful to the ozone layer and the entire environment. On the other hand, organic and natural skin care products are usually fragrance-free or mildly scented with natural aromas.

Causes No Harm to Animals

What good is it to use products that provide us with benefits if they cause harm to helpless animals? Unfortunately, you will be surprised that some of the most popular skincare products cause the destruction of animal habitats. Then, there’s also the disturbing fact that many skin care brands test their products on animals.

Yet, there are also manufacturers that forego animal testing and don’t do anything that is harmful to other living beings. By doing this, they are being ethical and more empathetic in comparison to synthetic brands. If you care about animals’ well-being and are against testing products on them, organic skin products are the best way to go. Buying and using natural products will prevent you from contributing to harmful and malicious practices. Ensure that every personal care product you purchase is going towards preserving animals’ precious life.

A good skin-care routine is important for having a healthy and good-looking complexion. However, we shouldn’t forget to take care of the environment as much as we take care of ourselves.
