The Benefits of Buckwheat Pillows Over Traditional Ones
Over the years, most of us have gotten used to sleeping on our traditional pillows, but are they really comfortable? Speaking from my personal experience, I didn’t know how much I was torturing my neck and body all this time until I switched over to a buckwheat pillow. After doing that change, I realised how bad traditional pillows can be and the different types of problems they can cause. For one, they don’t allow your body to rest in the proper way and they can allow for allergies to settle in. Even the chemicals used to make them can cause breathing problems and other unwanted complications to hypersensitive people.
The benefits of buckwheat pillows far outweigh those of traditional ones. Ever since I switched over I am noting great improvements and here are some of the most important ones.
The first thing I noticed when I put my head on my new pillow was the different smell, or the lack of it to be more precise. Unlike traditional pillows, a buckwheat pillow will from start feel more fresh and clean since they don’t have that plastic or chemical smell traditional pillows usually have. For complete relaxation, I recommend taking the time to mix some dried lavender buds with the buckwheat hulls since there’s no better sleep aromatherapy than lavender.
Also, I noticed that I didn’t feel as warm as I did when I used my old pillow. That’s because buckwheat pillows allow for much better air circulation and that can keep your pillow fresh for a longer period of time, making sure you stay cool over night. This leads to much better sleep – I can’t count the amount of times I’ve had trouble falling asleep because I was too hot. Foam pillows don’t allow for as much air circulation and many a time they end up being the reason for what keeps you awake at night.
The most noticeable difference I must mention however is concerned with the sensations in my spine and neck, since feeling mild to severe pain is those areas was always a chronic issue for me. While using my old pillow, I used to notice in the mornings that it had either completely moved from under my head, or if due to some miracle it stayed put, it would be so squished and flat that I might as well be sleeping without one. The buckwheat pillow however supports my neck throughout the whole night, doesn’t lose its shape and supports my head perfectly. If you have neck and back problems, I strongly recommend getting one, it has done wonders for me.
